Abou Dhabi, Emirats Arabes Unis, 16 Sep 2024
The 8th E-Fusion Summit, co-organised by the CSFN and ENEC (Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation), with the support of Business France, was held in Abu Dhabi on 16 September 2024. The E-FUSION cooperation programme nurtures and supports emerging partnerships and future collaborations with the French nuclear industry. 24 French companies came to Abu Dhabi to take part in the day's work, which included a plenary session, B2B meetings and themed workshops.
The meeting opened with a speech by Ali Al Hammadi, CEO of Nawah (operator of the Barakah power plant), who emphasised the importance of nuclear energy and its resilience in achieving the zero-carbon emission objective and decarbonising the United Arab Emirates' electricity grid.
His Excellency, the French Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Nicolas Niemtchinow, also praised the long-term Franco-Emirati cooperation and pointed out that this partnership was a driving force in the development of nuclear power. ‘E-Fusion, in conjunction with the Franco-Emirati strategic dialogue, underlines France's commitment to the Emirati nuclear programme and reflects our shared objective of decarbonising the economy to achieve net zero emissions, with the nuclear industry playing a key role in this effort.’
Luc Rémont, Chairman and CEO of EDF, compared the leading role played by France in promoting the nuclear sector in Europe with the role played by the United Arab Emirates, a nuclear pioneer in the Gulf States.
